Allen Hainge and Ellie Palmer were driving over to Baltimore from Reston, VA to meet us for lunch. Great. And I knew exactly how to get to the Bay Café, but it's difficult to explain to someone who doesn't know that area of Baltimore where streets don't all go in a nice, neat, criss-cross grid. This is near the harbor, and some streets have been there for literally hundreds of years. They turn at odd angles, and some are one way.
But thanks to a neat feature of the Treo, I could get directions by sending a text message to GOOGL (46645), and in seconds I had the address on my screen. I gave Allen and Ellie the address for their GPS, and they got there before we did! Allen of course knew about the neat tech tip, and Ellie was looking up all kind of "goodies" on her cell phone to see what was in nearby Baltimore city that was fun.

We had a delightful late lunch overlooking the water, and got right into the "You are on Vacation" frame of mind. They have yummy Maryland crab soup, great shrimp salad, and Lee loves their hamburgers. With good friends and a vacation mindset, you don't need to go away to get away!

Margaret, whatever did we do before Google maps and navigation systems in our cars? And the food looks wonderful!
Margaret, what a lovely place for lunch. GPS saves the day AGAIN.
Patricia, For some reason, I think we were still able to find our way..That was my lunch plate 1/2 order of shrimp salad and a cup of Maryland crab soup. The GOOGL feature on the cell phone plus the GPS got us all there.
Gary, Bay Cafe is a delight and is right on the water and it was a perfect day to dine on the open porch overlooking the boats.
That sounds like a wonderful day. I have been to the Baltimore waterfront a few times and always had fun. Great aquarium, great shopping, and great restaurants. I would be lost trying to find it without a gps, though! (Actually I HAVE been lost, pre-GPS days.)
Thanks for telling us about your day :)
Mary, Please let me know when you are in our area and I promise you won't get lost. Would love to show you around.
Margaret, my friend! I was browsing my friends here in the Rain and saw this wonderful post. The food looks wonderful and what great company!
Linda, I have missed you. Why can't I find your profile anymore?
Margaret - Looks like you all had a great time visiting and enjoying some good food.
Jennifer, Being with great friends and enjoying good food.....well it just doesn't get any better!
Hi Margaret, I caught your blog in the AR Foodaholics group. I moved away from Maryland about 3 years ago and your post about the Bay Cafe has brought back a lot of memories for me, good ones! You are spot on with your description of Baltimore streets where they don't all go in a nice, neat, criss-cross grid!
My husband and I loved going to quite a few Canton area restaurants. There was a great little funky Mexican restaurant called Nacho Mama's located on O'Donnell Street. Thanks for the trip back in the time machine.
Cynthia, Glad you found this in the AR Foodaholics group. Please let me know when you guys will be coming back to Baltimore so we can re-visit your favorite places.
Here is an update two years later when Allen, Ellie, Lee and I did a repeat. Baltimore, Good Friends and Lunch at the Bay Cafe!
