Everything Works Some Of The Time...

Funny that everything works some of the time, but nothing works all the time!

Is someone questioning your idea?

Careful of the naysayers. If you have a plan in real estate, of course, do the research. But don't give up on a passionate idea.

When asking for advice, consider the source. You certainly cannot wait for everyone to agree that your new design is a good one.

So many things I've tried over the years have worked for me even though others told me it was a waste of my time.

ideas don't work

Starting with consistent advertising, using my Sell Your Home With Margaret Rome tagline, making my appointments, showing my listings, taking hard to sell properties, attending inspections, writing my book REAL ESTATE THE ROME WAY,  using the TOO LATE signs, daily blogging, and even my weekly radio show.

At some point, someone was suggesting my way was not going to work. Just recently, cautioned that open houses were not productive, not safe, and were a waste of time. My open houses are impromptu, and for one hour when I already have a planned showing.

Have I listened to these naysayers? Yes!

Have I done things differently? Not really.

I continue to do one-hour open houses when there is a showing on my property.

Do they work?

Everything works some of the time, and nothing works all the time!

What has worked for you that goes against the advice of others?

I love that idea of doing a one-hour Open House. Do you put out signs? Our town is so geographically big that getting anywhere takes at least a half hour, so that would make good use of time. Thanks!

Mimi Foster I do not put signs out. I put the open in the MLS the day before or sometimes the same day. Almost always get a visitor or two. Good use of my time.

Hello Margaret - there's something about consistency that provides a good monitoring system.  In life and in real estate.

Thanks, Margaret, for sharing your experience.

I attended a open house this afternoon. Lise Howe listed a home on our street. Her traffic was slow but the property is very attractively priced.

Hi Margaret- love the saying because nothing works all of the time but doing nothing absolutely means nothing will work.

I once held an hour open house.  A buyer came in when it first opened, had their agent write the offer in the car parked out front, and my seller who was visiting neighbors a few houses down, came home and signed it!  However, that was many years ago, when we were a single page contract, with far fewer disclosures (1981)

Margaret Rome, Baltimore Maryland - I do believe that when the door is open and the right buyer walks in, it doesn't matter how long it takes, as long as you get results.

Love what you’ve written here! I think sometimes things work because it’s our attempt that’s getting us farther than the tactic. The attempt is how we meet life halfway!
