Communications Expectations ... Don't Assume

Being able to communicate effectively in this wonderful busy world of real estate is essential. Are there ever problems? But of course.

When I first meet a new client, whether buyer or seller, an agent or even my friends...I tell them how I operate.

phones

If you send me a text, an email or leave me a message...I will respond. If you don't hear from me, then presume that the message was NOT received.

email

From the beginning I let others know if they don't hear back from me...reach out again. Stuff does happen.

Just this morning, I realized that my Monday home inspection appointment was not acknowledged. Going back to my text ...I saw my written message but next to it ''not delivered."

Immediately resent and within seconds got my expected response.

Stuff happens. The need for follow up is crucial. So when I don't hear back some someone, the benefit of the doubt is given. Resend the message, make another phone call, repeat a text, or email.  Don't assume the message was received.

Follow up and always give the benefit of the doubt.

Always return the call IF the message is received!

Hi Margaret,
Communication. Such a big subject and can't be emphasized enough.  Stuff does happen and we do need to give the benefit of the doubt when people don't respond within a reasonable period of time.  If we can't reach people one way we need to try another and another. If they don't respond to any form of communication I figure they don't want to be found.  NEXT.

Hello Margaret,  I know what you mean, sometimes we miss connecting with people and they need to know if we do not respond, we did not get their information.

Margaret,

What you are saying makes sense, and it is definitely how we operate.  Wishing you a great Sunday.  A

Good afternoon Margaret Rome, Baltimore Maryland - the biggest problem I hear from businesses is poor communication.  It is a two way street and both sides need to understand as well as be understood.

Assumption can get us into a lot of trouble.  You make good points, Margaret.

Carol Williams I'm smiling. If they don't respond to any form... they may not want to be found.

Will Hamm They need to understand if we don't respond...just maybe we didn't get the message.

Lauren Williams, CPO Those glitches do happen. I wonder how many friendships, relationships, and business deals have failed due to this innocent non-response.

Grant Schneider Without the two-way street...there is no communication.

Myrl Jeffcoat Assumption does get us in trouble. Verify before assuming.

A nice, little reminder. Stuff do happen and while it maybe of inconvenience, a second message is okay. But having another after that can be annoying and nagging.
