Lighting Another's Candle...

One of the wonderful things I find about reaching out to others especially with January's Kudo Challenge is letting others know they have touched you and how they continue to make your life a bit better. This happened with a blog written by my AR friend Dr. Karen Lewis, Broker 305-3231556 in Florida. Do you remember when Karen was looking for advice about having a kiosk in her local mall? Ninety-nine percent of those who responded were negative.

And then there was me...what an idea...a way to put yourself in front of ordinary folks while doing their routine shopping. Just because I knew of no one else doing this...it made the idea even more interesting. And if she was willing to commit the investment of time and money...go for it. Go ahead and incorporate that kiosk with your weekly radio show, blog about it and talk to anyone who would listen. Karen got a ton of names but just recently admitted to me they were mostly buyers.  News flash; "Buyers are future sellers!" And you need buyers if you have listings. You've got other members of your team to share those buyers!

Karen's enthusiasm for real estate is contagious. Whenever we talk...she says..." wait a minute, I need some paper and a pen."

''Margaret Rome, Baltimore Maryland is my hero and mentor.

I have listened to her radio show a few times, and she is always giving another agent a compliment.

Here are a few reasons on why I honestly admire Margaret Rome and I call her my mentor:

When I first signed up on the rain, Margaret Rome was the only rain member called to welcome me on the rain.  I was honored. I had my 1st incident on the rain because the member made a negative comment on my post and I was offended.  I called the member and if they had said one wrong word, I would have said something maybe not so nice.  I shared my conversation with her and that was the one and only time I ever let a comment bother me.  I just had to be rain trained and she gave me my training.  I try to talk to her every few weeks.  When we have a conversation, I MUST have a pen and paper at hand.  She gave me some nuggets this week and some are already in action:

  •        Always go against the grain if you believe
  •        Blog about listings more than once
  •        Dear House letter from sellers
  •        Use radio and blogs as part of listing presentations
  •        Print media

During the conversation, she always keeps herself out of the picture and on the last call she highlighted another Rain member and said I should read all their blogs.  Home Rome, you will go down in history in the real estate world.  Thank you for contributing to the rain and the real estate industry.  Never keep your information to yourself.  There are some agents no matter what part of the country they are in, they want what you have inside of you – someone like myself.

Dr.Karen Lewis''

I loe the sharing and caring that goes on here. Every time I talk with a new agent I say "Join!"

Marte Cliff I've been doing that for years. Very few sign-up and those that do have not caught the blogging bug.

All we can do is keep encouraging them. When I have the opportunity I go on about all they can learn here and all the frienships they can make.

Just today I talked with an experienced agent who comes here to read but hasn't started blogging. I explained why it is beneficial and I'm pretty sure she "Got it." I hope so.

Marte Cliff Over the years, I have invited thousands...even given classes. Everyone seems enthusiastic in the beginning but less than a hand full have followed through. Encouraging other bloggers seems to be more productive than trying to get someone to actually start.

I don't believe I have read Karen's post about the kiosk.  But, on the face it appears to be an original idea that it could easily be her exclusive niche!

Back in December 2017, Karen used the Q&A asking for our opinion on opening a kiosk. She got over 50 comments and 99% were negative. She went against the grain...there is a post, I will try to find.

I wonder why that is. I suppose it could be that people are afraid to put themselves "out there" by writing messages that will potentially be read by so many. And of course - some are just afraid of writing or really don't like writing.

Whatever their reason, it's definitely their loss.

Completely lovely, both of you. I do remember the kiosk post and was quite surprised at so many negative comments. If one has never tried something, why knock it? Your open mind and open heart is a joy.

Debb Janes EcoBroker and Bernie Stea JD  I do think that this post is what AR is about. And it is happening between lots and lots of members. The caring and sharing here is remarkable. You just don't hear about it. This was one of the reasons for the January Kudos Challenge.

Thank you for your kind words!
