Just Because You Live In A House...

Home buyers and sellers should be comfortable enough with their Realtor® that open discussions are always an option.

If one of your "friends" tells you "how it should be done" or "how" their agent would be handling the transaction, please talk to you own agent. Tell them about the conversation.

And if it is a good idea, your agent may incorporate it.

But if it's meddling or something truth impaired, your agent needs to be aware.

When listing a home, the sellers and the Realtor® become partners, making sure the client  gets the very best outcome.

Just because someone lives in a house does not make them an expert to give advice on selling or buying one.

Yet many people when they have their home on the market or are buying a home will listen to neighbors, family, friends, co workers and others .

These busybodies are known for trying to help with situations in which they're not educated, welcome or needed.

Just want to remind you to talk, really talk, to your agent.

Realtors® have this conversation prior to signing a listing or buying agreement.

Oh, what a great line!  It seems everyone is an expert on selling real estate because they read it on the internet or someone’s next door neighbor’s aunt knows someone from church who was an agent 20 years ago.

Honestly I'm not sure I'd "list" my own house.  I'm emotional about my house.  This is where Donald and I started our married life together and raised our kids together.  So even though I'm a good and competent broker I'd want a layer between my emotions and buyer and buyers agents.

Definitely! Buyers and sellers should talk to their agents whenever they hear something from a neighbor, friend, family member about "how to" sell or buy. Unfortunately, this happens a lot!

Margaret I just attempted to show a FISBO home the other day. The owner that lives out of state didn't return my call until the next day. By then the buyers found a home and made an offer. Trying to sell a home just because you live in a home doesn't work out so well very often. Whenever we get ready to sell we'll move out first, let the stagers re-stage and I'm sure it will look totally different through their eyes. Get out of our own way!!

Tammy Lankford, You make a good point... it's not in your best interest to  be your own client.

Kat Palmiotti  We do hear it a lot and if we educate the public in the beginning, they can see it coming.

Anna Banana Kruchten CRB, CRS 602-380-4886  Good point. Many times  they just don't know how to get out of their own way.

Goes hand in hand with an owner not trying to represent themselves as a FSBO. Knowing the house doesn't make them the best person to represent them in the sale and certainly doesn't make them knowledgeable about the process and all things involved.

Tammy Lankford, That may be a topic for a contest. Have you ever represented yourself in a RE transactions and title it "And how bad was the experience?"

Hi Margaret,
I live in a house and I've sold lots of them but I am retired now and I will not be selling my own home ever again.  Not that I couldn't but I know I shouldn't.

Carol Williams My main point is all the people (busybodies)who tell others  how to get the house sold.

Congratulations on your retirement..enjoy.

Hi Margaret,
What program do you use to create your "signs"?
