Sorry, I'm Not The Person To Give You Advice.

Buying a home should be a fun, happy and exciting time with anticipation of finding that perfect place live.

A recent encounter was just the opposite...in fact there were tears

asking for my advice.

My agent wasn't available to show my house and asked me to leave the house unlocked or just put the key under the mat. We keep missing the opportunity to see a home before it's under contract. We lost a house because our agent said it was okay to go under the asking price the first day it was on the market.   This is too stressful, I don't want this agent's help anymore...But the agent is our best friend! We are afraid they won't talk with us...ever again.

And why are you telling me?

My response

" I cannot talk to you! You are under contract with an agent!."

Question: If this is a BEST friend...shouldn't they want the very best for you?

Hiring a friend

Should I hire my friend?

Using a best friend as my agent.

 I have answered this before.

If you are listed with me, I will answer all of your questions and give you my opinion.

If you are listed with another agent...

Sorry, I am not the person to give you advice.

Good morning, Margaret Rome, Baltimore Maryland I always referred close friends and family.... I kept a very close eye on family members, but I controlled myself and stayed out of the equation... I was more of a "catalyst"...

Barbara Todaro  You were not directily involved but were there to "make sure" things went well. No question that  your friends and family got taken care of as though you were working with them.

Lise Howe This is something I hear way to often.... clients have chosen the agent for the wrong reason...ie friendship, relative, business or some type of perceived obligation.

Good morning Margaret. Sometimes people make poor choices picking friends! And, you can't offer advice. Sorry! Enjoy your day anyway!

Access to homes often causes more issues than it should.  I just read a blog by Chris Ann Cleland which was another story about keys, lockboxes and access.

Margaret Rome, Baltimore Maryland I've heard this not only from friends but from strangers.  The calls come, oh, but they're not showing me what I want.  They don't really take the time, etc, etc.  You've heard it all before.  This is a great post!

Margaret, there a re so many agents out there with one client and that is friend or family. I am Ok with that if they are being mentored and assisted by a qualified and experienced agent.

Joe Pryor  Good to see you.

Friendship is good but only if the client is protected.

Good grief.  What agent tells someone to leave a key under the mat?

Hey Chris Ann Cleland Good grief is right. Is it time for a meet up?

If you are willing to drive down to the Rockville area or closer, yes.

Call me crazy...but that's a long time in the car.  Don't get me wrong, the company and the crab cakes were amazing.

Friends and relatives often think it's cruise control time when they should be busting their ass. I will talk to a caller that has an agent and here's what I say:

"If you decide to fire your agent, I'd be happy to show you how real estate really is-I'm sorry you've seen the dark side. Please call me when you are free to  meet, on the sunny side of the street."
