How Did You Get Into Real Estate?

When meeting up with a friend from high school, I was asked to share my journey of becoming a Realtor®

Real estate was not my first or second career.

I started as a Registered Nurse and then a porcelain artist making custom ceramic pieces for designers, home owners and even agents to give as house warming gifts.

Then there was a car accident... I was rear ended while driving and told not to lift more than five pounds. Since a box of clay weighed 50 pounds.. there would be no more ceramics for awhile.

Someone suggested a real estate course and  I signed up...just to

"tide me over"

until I could get back to my love of clay.

That was  back in 1990 and through the years,  many of my former patients, nurses, doctors, artists and owners of my artwork became real estate clients.

It's rewarding finding my custom artwork, from years ago, in a client's home.

My nursing background, especially the psychology, has been invaluable

handling the stress of clients listing, selling and moving.

How fortunate to combine, nursing, ceramic art and the love of real estate.

That's how I got into Real Estate?

Thank you for sharing. I did not know that you were a nurse before you got into real estate.

Hi Margaret,
I had no idea you were a nurse or worked with clay.  Many (maybe most) of us had other careers prior to real estate.  It would be interesting to hear everyones story, wouldn't it?

I don't think I ever met anyone whose first career was real estate. We all get here through other paths.

Gita Bantwal Nursing was good training. Important to know what is an emergency and what is not.

For me my retail business had cratered, I was broke, and i got hooked on Knots Landing reruns. I needed a change and 28 years later I thnk I did the right thing. All of the above is true and I really cared what happened in that cul de sac.
