Voila You Have A Blog

While speaking to a member this week, they shared their desire to get back to blogging.

Their last post, almost 3 months ago, was well written with lots of good information, good eye candy and quite professional.

So I asked why haven't you written lately?

Their response was interesting ...

"I'm too much of perfectionist to put that kind of time in."

We talked about what she wanted to accomplish.. her own blog  in her own voice.

Each blog does not have to be a Pulitzer Prize master piece.

We are real estate professionals not professional bloggers.

Being busy producing Realtors® we are using our blogs as a way to market ourselves and our properties. We need to be found on social media. We want to be transparent to future and present clients.

If you are going to wait until you write the perfect post, with the perfect set of photos, with a message to reach everyone...you may not be blogging very much.

There are some easier ways to get into that blogging grove.

Relax a bit, take a deep breath.

Go to your smart phone and see what photos you have taken in the past few days. I bet some of them are interesting enough to write a few paragraphs...after all they caught your eye. Now go share one or two in a blog.

My friend William Johnson

taught me many years ago about this technique.

He called it a photo blog. One picture, 50 words, put it in a few groups, put in your tag words, check your spelling, click save, review, and then hit publish.

 And....

Voila Margaret Rome

You have a blog!

Good evening Margaret Rome, Baltimore Maryland,

You are so right and you just brought up a blogger I love and that is William Johnson ..I haven't seen a blog from him in quite a while..I'm going to check when he last posted!

Posted by Dorie Dillard, Serving Buyers & Sellers in NW Austin Real Estate (Coldwell Banker United Realtors® ~ 512.346.1799) 5 months ago

Thank you for this. I have just started blogging. When I mean just started, I mean I have written one. It does take some of the pressure of knowing that it doesn't have to be perfect. I feel the same pressure. I am a math person and English was not my best subject. Do you or anyone else have any tips on books or ideas for blogging? Should it all be real estate related if it's on our website? Should I only blog on my website? What are some other places to blog for real estate? Thank in advance for any information.

HI Margaret and Dorie,
I am still here just haven't posted anything in a while. This last year has been so interesting, traveled a bit and have been to some amazing museums. This year will be a very good business year but I have really simplified my business process. No more of me doing the staging, no more of me being the photographer. I will check in and do some posting now and then and say Hi.

William Johnson Wonderful to see you have been traveling. You have been missed!! Sounds like you are going to simplify your life a bit...you don't have to do it all...even though no one can do it as well! All the best for a great 2018.

Margaret, thanks for the reminder that every blog does not need to be perfect or lengthy. I can’t tell you how many draft blogs I have saved and never published for that reason. They never get published because I never feel they are ready. I may have to rethink my strategy.

Joyce Marsh, Daytona Beach Florida We all have a bunch of draft blogs...not quite ready or just forgotten. Always good to see you.

What's perfect anyway? Just some goofy label that is quite subjective. Great advice as usual, Yoda Margaret. :)

Barbara Todaro The eye buys! And with my blogs, I enjoy making the graphics or using my own pictures or combining them.Sometimes spend more time on the "art" than the words.

Good advice, Margaret Rome, Baltimore Maryland !   None of us would hit the publish button if it had to be perfect every time.  We are human and we each have our own voice.  Thanks for encouraging the apprehensive.

Blogging for me is something that I have to force myself to get in the habit of doing. Hard to start but once I get going everything is ok.

Someone here said it last year, and I think it was Dick Greenberg .  "If it's important enough to do, it's important enough to do wrong."

Too many people avoid productive activities while pursuing perfection that will forever have them in preparation mode.

Hi Margaret

There is such good advice here! It IS easy to want everything to be perfect, which of course typically it won't be and that's just fine. As I have been told a number of times in different webinars...it's better to just get it done rather than wait until it's perfect. Photoblogs are a great idea to showcase out communities, events, businesses and more. Those looking to more to an area will find and enjoy these posts, too.

The best way to learn and to improve is to actually do it.  Then you see and learn things that you never even thought about.  One thing leads to another and before you know it you are at a place you couldn't have ever imagined at the beginning.  Also, the more you do something, the easier it gets.  After a while, a post that you agonized about for days suddenly flows off your fingers in minutes.  But you'll never get there if you just think about it.  You have to do it.

Posted by Tim Maitski, Truth, Excellence and a Good Deal (Atlanta Communities Real Estate Brokerage) 5 months ago

Tim Maitski You just have to do it. It is hard to achieve perfection on the first try. Your comment would make a good stand alone blog. Thanks for stopping by.

I have been told that you can not win the lottery if you don't buy a ticket.

No one will find what you know about real estate if you don't share it with them.

So, as you say: Write a Blog.

Thanks for the inspiring post.
