Today while in a small grocery store, busy of course at this time of year, I witnessed someone holding up the line putting things back after each price check. There was not enough money for all her items. So I slipped the cashier some money and said Merry Christmas. Please allow this lady to take all her items. The lady thanked me and left.
I complimented the cashier on how well she handled the situation. After all there was a line waiting and she spent a lot of time with this one customer. That's when the cashier told me this lady does this ALL the time! I was surprised but not shocked. I felt good for "helping" and then felt a bit taken.
This lady found a new way of "begging" not on the streets but in a warm store and with good people wanting to help. I felt much better knowing that the money went for food and not anything else.
So was I paying it forward or was I was I just paying?
I think I will call the store manager in the morning.
It's good to help others. It's sad seeing others with different motives.
