Don't Forget The Garage

When marketing a home remember everyone looks in closets and garages. Please make sure they are either neat, empty or even staged.  I have some sellers who want to take all the stuff and put it in the garage!

This is their quick way of getting the house ready for the photographer.

NO NO NO!!!

no

Garages need to be clean to show that it is only for cars. After the listing is signed, we go through the home to see what is needed to make the best first impression.

Garages are a wonderful selling feature in Baltimore. Especially with our wide range of temperatures and weather conditions. Either quite hot in the summer, a quick thunderstorm and the possibility of snow and ice later in the season.

Careful about storing something for a short time in your garage. That short time is much longer than you think. Before you know it ...there is so much stuff in the garage, there is no more room for the car.

Why do you think garage sales are so popular?

Quickest way to make this point..have the entire garage painted. That means empty first and then paint.

Note: Make this suggestion only after the listing is signed!

A clean, fresh, neat, staged garage is a good selling feature!

While I agree, I generally see people using the garage for storage prior to moving. And I'm guilty of doing it too.

There’s so much space to be used innovatively in the garage that people don’t realize about until very often after they’ve been settled in the house

Storage is the general idea but there’s always so much to do with open space and you just never know until you try.

I wish my garage looked as clean and nice as the one you have pictured, Margaret!

Good morning Margaret - absolutely agree.  Too many people use their garage to collect junk and leave cars in the driveway.  Very uninviting.

Good afternoon Margaret. I completely agree. I wouldn't buy a home without a garage....or the ability to build one.

Hi Margaret - You're certainly right, but it's very seldom that we see a garage that isn't stuffed with junk. Have a great weekend!

Dick Greenberg True but that junk has to be moved when the house is sold. Get it done early for an easier sale.

I wish my garage looked that neat.  If I ever sell my home, you better believe it will by then.

Margaret - we have several garage "stagers" in this area. They don't call themselves that, but that's what they do.  I agree, very important.

Margaret Goss I would love to see what they do. Have you written about them. Before and after pictures would be fun.

That is a photo of the cleanest garage I have ever seen, Margaret Rome, Baltimore Maryland .  My garage is so stuffed, when(if) we ever sell our home, an estate sale can be had just from the junk in it!
