Do You Really Want A Feature Post?

This is the post to read...especially the comments.

Don't throw me any more gold stars.

My recent post was featured but that is not always a good thing. If you are busy with life and real estate, it takes time to respond to all the wonderful comments from the kind members who stop by to give you support and say really nice things.

Don't get me wrong...it is an honor to be featured, to see that little gold star, to get the instant satisfaction, a pat on the back and

to get this email.

ActiveRain Feature

Reminds me of a post I wrote ten years ago, April 2007. It was featured and received  190 comments and zero likes. Back then, there was no 'like' button.

Want to reminisce, want to go back in time, want to see some old Rainers, want to see what happened with a high jacked post, want to waste some time and/or have a bit of fun?

Check this one out

Don't throw me any more gold stars.

Who remembers ActiveRain ten years ago?

Margaret I love Featured Post in spite of the draw backs you describe... the fact those go out ot 700 to a 1000 viewers faster than the other post... so it is not about the Gold Star it is about exposure...Endre

They are hard shoes to fill if you're going to mess with your own head about the whole thing. You kinda have to stay cool

Good morning Margaret.

I'll take all the feature posts I can get.  I wasn't around, not even in the business 10 years ago.  A lot has changed I'm sure

Congratulations on the featured posts. I always love to read your posts.

Hi Margaret - I love the features but yes I know I have lots of responses to acknowledge and blogs to visit.  It's all good.

Good morning Margaret. You are much more diligent than I responding to all the comments you receive. Enjoy your day!

I have two thoughts about real estate.  If you want to get featured on ActiveRain, or get really busy with your career, then plan a vacation.  It works every time.

What a 'crafty lady' you are with this fun challenge. Hope more get back to you with <Likes>!

I agree they can be a lot of work but it's also fun to see it on the front page!

Good morning Margaret. Features do get a great deal of attention and require time to respond, but it is worth it.

Featured posts definitely create a influx of comments.  And bloggers like you and I like to acknowledge our comments.  It can feel overwhelming some days.

Margaret- I almost forgot to return to your post because I went to the earlier post and found myself reading all (and I do mean all) of the comments and enjoying seeing some of the members from earlier days. You know what's funny is that several times I'll write a post thinking that I'm having a busy day or going away for a trip and won't have time to respond to all of the comments when bam! I get a gold star. (IRMA kept me away from the Rain last weekend!)

Kathy Streib Hope you are well and safe from IRMA.

Reading all those comments took you some time. There must be close to 200 comments on that post written in 2007.

Thanks for the feature on this week's Ah-Ha Moment. I really appreciate your taking time each week to find these gems.

I'm in the same boat as you,Wayne Martin! It seems like it takes me 2 months sometimes to get back to comments and I feel horrible about it, although I do like those little gold stars!!

Margaret Rome, Baltimore Maryland, loved that old post - and read the comments again - lots of old faces that I miss terribly, as I'm sure you do!

I wrote a similar post to yours back in '07 also and feel the same way you do - I love those little gold stars and hate not getting back to everyone right away! The other side of the coin (and the bottom line!) is that we get business from this venue and we may joke about the features but, we're truly thankful!

Have a wonderful Sunday, Margaret!

Oh yes, it can be a love hate relationship.  It's fun for a moment and then responding to all the comments is daunting.  And, it always seem to happen when I'm super busy.  I have been more focused lately on traffic and backlinks to my own site.

Hi Margaret

Leave it to you to always share a thought-provoking post. I bet many who covet that gold star haven't thought about this perspective. Off to read some history. What fun that will be!

Good morning Margaret Rome, Baltimore Maryland ,

I'm so glad that Kathy Streib featured your post in her "Ah-Ha" moments for the week..not sure how I missed it! I followed the link and had to chuckle at all the comments. Laurie Manny was hysterical bumping your point total up!! I've been meaning to tell you..I like your new photo!

Hey Margaret Rome, Baltimore Maryland of course I had to come up and say - how fun! I totally get this one! It is a lot of work to comment on features and I take that seriously as I appreciate folks stopping by.  I recently saw a really old featured on from years ago - and so many folks are no longer in the rain.

How funny that I'm actually sitting here now, overwhelmed, trying to reply to the comments on my featured post. Replying is just the beginning. I also like to reciprocate by commenting on their posts. AGGHHHHH!

I wasn't here a couple of days and come back to over 100 notifications.

I did take the time to go to that old post of yours and was surprised to see that I commented on it a couple of years ago!

Getting featured is awesome....it's also exhausting. LOL

Can't fall into the AR wormhole today, but I know what you mean!  Responding to each and every comment is a lot of fun, important, but semi-daunting!
