Contests Questions Fun Stuff ...WHY?

For those of us who have been on ActiveRain for over 10 years, we have seen so many contests. Some are fun, some are informative, some teach a new skill, some help make connections, some get the newer members involved, some inspire us, some encourage, some are all about real estate and others are personal.

For each kind of contest there will be members who love the challenge and write some wonderful articles.

These are not for everyone. If you don't like contests, or Q&A or fun posts,  just skip even looking at these sections which can be found at the  bottom of the screen.

No different than not liking a post or disagreeing with a point of view on open houses, advertising and lock boxes.

You can always write your own post with your own opinion.

But there are many members who give so much time and effort to bring us new ideas to keep our content fresh. These outstanding professionals are always looking for ways to make the site better. No way am I  going  to mention anyone in particular.

Think about who has made an impact on you with a post, a specific topic, technology, a new selling technique, photography, answering a question, taking a different point of view, handling objections, how to make changes business or personal or just wrote something that hit a chord and made you say WOW !

From being on ActiveRain, here are a few things that I have accomplished,  through inspiration gained, over this past decade.

Daily blogging

Writing a book

Going solo with HomeRome

Hosting my own radio show

Mentoring other agents.

Selling very unique homes.

I have learned to enjoy participating in many of the contests in recent years. Others I feel guilty of skipping, because there is a lack of imagination or inspiration on my part.  But, all in all, I think they are a fun part of ActiveRain.

Hi Margaret... I totally agree with you. If you don't like something, no one is making you participate or spend time on it. Move on. It's wrong to assume that because one doesn't appreciate some aspect of this site that no one else does or finds value.

Good morning Margaret Rome, Baltimore Maryland,

So glad to see this post featured! Your positive attitude along with so many others is what keeps me here in the Rain. I've learned so much and have implemented many game changing ideas that have increased my business significantly over the years. I've always felt ff you don't like something, no one is making you participate or spend time on it. Just move on!

Hi Margaret -- I seem to be reading(and thinking) about perspective a lot --- your post continues with the theme which can be experienced in the Rain and in the real world too.

Margaret I am continually expanding my knowledge and level of fun here in the rain and I'm grateful for the last 9 years. To me contest have gotten me to 'try' something differently or new.....recently I got bit by the photo editing bug because of Dick Greenberg contest. Now I'm hooked and I am so glad about that - it has made a huge difference and it's really such a small tweak!

Hi Margaret

I continue to be inspired by, and learn from, so many here, with new people joining us all the time. The list is endless. There is such a diversity of opinions, and behavior, which is what makes this community human. If you don't like something, then it's easy enough to move along since there is so much else, and so any people, to enjoy.

Hi Margaret - You're right - the contests usually come with their own reward. I have always enjoyed them and participate in most of them if I have time and something to offer. And it always helps to have a few topics preselected every month.

LOVE this post, Margaret! I see members comment, "I don't know why people participate in..." or "I would never do that..." If one needs to be belligerent or negative...just move on; we're fine with you doing so!  LOL

Like you, I've learned SO much here in the Rain - and a LOT from you! I love members' sharing mentality and helpfulness. I'm SO happy to have found AR - I can't imagine life without AR and many members here (including you)!  ;-)

There are so many good ideas, and encouragement here, makes you realize you are not alone, and when you feel you know someone you can pick up the phone and ask if you can bounce an idea of them, even if they are on the other side of the country.  All those contests let us get to know each ther a little better.

I'm in and out when it comes to contest.  I'm either all in or all out.  The blogging contest (i.e. 30 days, etc) are or used to be my favorite, but one year it just wore the heck out of me and I haven't been a big fan ever since.  But hey, that's a been a long time ago and it's time for me to get back in the groove.

Some of the contest are just exclusiviely for fun but others provoke thought that may questions some comfortable beliefs that shouldn't be so comfortable.

The contests are a great part of this forum. I am entertained, learn from, am inspired and motivated by them. I would not have made it to where I am in points and followers without them.

I missed so many contests in the beginning because I just didn't understand. Now I get it, they are fun, provocative, and I try to participate.  Unless I have to write 20 or more posts a month on a selective topic during a hot market. Those are sometimes too challenging. Let me share my garden pictures or learn a new photo app. Those I can accomplish!
