Yes I Remember

Today, I recognized a client from years ago and I went over to him and said my name. He knew me but had no idea that I remembered him. He was actually surprised and reminded me that he purchased 19 years ago.

Ha...I described the house he bought,  the first home I showed him, the seller he bought from and the unique way we handled an

unwanted rent back It was one of my favorite examples of negotiating.

I even remembered his ex girlfriend's name and a sale for his special aunt. When people are important they leave a lasting impression.

My houses leave even more lasting impressions.

I can probably describe most of the homes I have sold over the years. Love running into former buyers and sellers and telling them about their unique property.

Dale Carnegie Tip # 6: A person’s name is the sweetest sound to their ears.

I'll bet he was impressed, Margaret! My father-in-law was in real estate for 22 years and had been in almost every house in town. Some of them he had sold multiple times and it was amazing how much he remembered about each deal.

Nathan Gesner He was impressed and another person who overheard was even more impressed.  Hey I was even impressed that I remembered so much...but he was a special client!

I don't remember all my deals but many I do and the people that bought them

I remember most of my transactions and the people, as well as interesting things that happened while in the process, too, Margaret. I think people are impressed we remember!

I had a similar experience last February at a Crab Feed.  A couple walked up to me and said, "I bet you don't know who we are."  I replied, "Sure I do.  You are so and so, who I sold a house at 555 Amber Lane.  It's a nice ranch style home on 1/2 acre corner lot."  It had been over 20 years ago that I had sold them that home.  However, for years I sent out marketing materials to past clients.  I always hand addressed the envelopes.  Each time I did, I would recall the faces, the address, and little details of the sale.

Hi Margaret - Those interactions are important, even if they don't go back a long way. Mary saw a client we helped buy a home last winter in the grocery store, and when she called his name, he was so excited - it was the first time since he moved here that someone recognized him in public.

Margaret- that's because you truly are a professional.  You remind me of a wonderful lady who took me under her wing the one year I was an agent (over 30 years ago). We would drive through areas and she could tell me about the houses, what they sold for and knew if something had been done to it. She also knew about the owners!

Dear Margaret,

Very impressive! I have a friend, who has the same type of memory for builder's offerings & what upgrades different people got in their homes eons ago. I recognize people & their names, if they were my clients, but may not remember every house I have shown.

Posted by Dörte Engel, ABC - Annapolis, Bowie, Crofton & rest of Maryland (RE/MAX Leading Edge) almost 3 years ago

I can usually remember faces, but have trouble remembering names. Heck, I sometimes go to call out to my children and call them by the dogs name instead ! But I remember every house I was ever in and every property I sold. I remember condo buidings but not specific condo's so much.

I'm impressed Margaret. Like many others who have commented, I remember all of my sellers and almost all of their transactions. It is uncanny when a former client calls and says "Do you remember me" and of course I do, but probably couldn't recall as much detail as you did. Kudos to you!

Pat Starnes The more special our clients are..the more we remember. And choosing to work only with special people, who we like and  respect, makes it easy.

To what you were just saying to Pat Starnes, sometimes it's about such little things that we just don't see it at the time but makes all the difference in the world. :)

I, too, remember just about every home we have sold and circumstances surrounding it - often I remember more than the client.  I think we are just in tune with what is going on and recognizes the differences or similiarities and it gets catagorized as such in our brains.  I'll be honest, I remember most of my clients but there are just a few where I remember the home better than them....-Kasey

Sam Shueh Maybe not all the names but pretty sure I could describe the property they bought or sold.
