At this stage, I have the balance that most are looking for.
After losing My Lee three years ago, I have been able to devote my time to real estate, exclusively, working with clients and properties I choose.
One of the ways of taking the stress out of my life is having more business than I can handle. With my pipe line full, it easy for me to select who I want to work with and always on my terms. It is easy for me to turn down a listing or a buyer if the fit does not seem perfect.
I make time for my daughter and for special people and they all know my phone is on for them 24/7.
I can juggle my schedule to fit in anything.
This afternoon an old friend's daughter called and stopped by to say hello. She introduced me to her new husband and we caught up after many years. Spur of the moment and I made time.
And another phone call from a friend in town for a couple of days...I changed my plans and we had dinner together this evening...spur of the moment.
Another friend called a couple of days ago and said "I'm going to a movie at 3:30 today...join me.'' Yes I went out and had a delightful break watching Beauty and The Beast. I call these mini stay-cations. Again spur of the moment.
Each and every Saturday night I go out with a best friend...we have not missed a Saturday in over a year. We have known each other for over forty years but have only reconnected out of mutual tragedy... the loss of her husband. We never run out of things to talk about...are almost always positive and are coming up with new ideas to help others.
My live radio show brings balance to my life and keeps me grounded. I have become relaxed at sharing my week with the listening audience. It is fun talking about transactions, challenges, my properties, homes that I need for specific buyers and taking live calls. Sometimes I have a guest in the studio, sometimes I have buyers or sellers call in and sometimes there are no calls and I get to talk for the entire hour. This show keeps me on my toes and very humble. With live radio you never know what will come up and I am loving the challenge.
I could not talk about balance in my life without talking about my involvement with ActiveRain since all the way back to 2006. Blogging daily keeps me focused and talking with a member everyday has been a highlight in my personal and business life.
Three times a week I go to the gym and work out with my trainer. I have done this for the past dozen or more years. My goal is to stay in shape and stay injury free. John makes my exercise fun..never boring, he changes my routine frequently. Knowing I enjoy the cool weather...he will reward me my taking me outside for part of my workout as long as it 60º or below. This is my time...and I receive a full hour just for me. When I first hired John, I told him I did not want to have any conversation during this time. My past trainers were getting more out the morning session than I was. I have a problem not nurturing and was helping them with their life. I really needed time for me. John has followed this so strictly that when I do want to talk with him...he stops the conversation and says something like...guess we have to add more weight if you can still talk.
And I still love all the various parts of real estate from listing, to couseling, to showing, to selling, to advertising to just helping others make their dreams come true.
Not sure if this is what Jeff Dowler had in mind for May's contest but...
I am pretty good with this balance thing.
