Learn From Little Kids

If you really want to learn to negotiate take some time and observe young children prolong bedtime.

If you are around kids for even a short time, you have no problem grasping this concept.

Just watch a child in the grocery store. They see something they want and they figure out a way to get it.  They ask...not once but numerous times and  they use different  tactics. They give something in return.. a hug, an "I love you"  and they change how they ask and always stay focused on the prize.

And the skilled kids do not lose their cool !

They have found that  doesn't work.

They just seem to get cuter and sweeter and melt you with those needy eyes. And most of the time they get exactly what they want and make the adult feel good about giving in.

Think about this in relation to real estate.

What lessons can be learned from the little kids?

Interesting analogy Margaret Rome, Baltimore Maryland . Of course my kids were perfect angels so we never dealt with the situations you describe

Bob "RealMan" Timm  But your perfect angels always got just what they wanted..right?

I love this, Margaret!  I had one just like the master negotiator you describe! It used to make Ray so mad because I was more likely to 'cave' than he was when Ryan would do his eye-batting!  I use the honey-catching-flies philosophy in business as well and it certainly has worked well for me too! LOL

Have a fantastic weekend, Margaret!

Hi Margaret --- through the words of a child you show there is so much about life that we learn while young that needs to be remembered in order to most effective.  Not only in business but in life.

I always watch when Ellen interviews kids on her show and as Art Linkletter once said, kids say the darnest things.

I also have a master negotiator. She is relentless and it always works in her favor.

Margart and then there is the Propecting Dog Barney!! I wrote a few posts a few years back about his prospecting skill set and that agents should follow them to the T.  And the same thing applies to little kids! Love it!

Hi Margaret - Great example. I'm on the receiving end of this from our two granddaughters, and I'm helpless to resist. And while the principle idea works, I don't think their exact tactics would play so well if done during a real estate negotiation : )

Myrl Jeffcoat Thanks for the feature. Enjoy the  grands!

Dick Greenberg  Maybe not the exact tactics but the principle idea works.

Who doesn't respond to a child (or a dog Thomas J. Nelson, Realtor, CRS ?). We can really learn from simple consistency and perhaps a begging attitude?

Posted by Lynnea Miller, Premier Real Estate Service in Central Oregon (Bend Premier Real Estate) about 3 years ago

Lynnea Miller Consistency and some sweet begging...my kitty does a good job of getting her treats.

I just wonder where all that youthful negotiating talent goes when they grow up and become adults and all of a sudden become afraid to hear the word "no".
