I've said it myself – and I've heard others say it, too – "Next time I'm getting a Mac!" When our computers act up, when Windows shows us nothing, when the wrath of Bill Gates cuts us off from the world with a frozen system…that's when we start to think of all the people we know who love their Macs.
I haven't done it…yet. But if I do, I'll have a guide thanks to my first cousin Arnold Reinhold, who has written a Dummies book on switching to a Mac. On his support site for the book, DitchMyPC.com, he says, "My book is aimed at PC users who are thinking of giving Apple's Macintosh computers a try, as well as those who have already bought a Mac and are trying to make the switch."
Sounds like just what I'll need!

I here ya. My original Mac 128 is sitting in the garage. I hated the day I switched to PCs. As an exsoftware engineer, all I can say is that standards went way down with the PCs. I was in support for a non-PC (non-Mac) workstation product and if a system hung or crashed we were often on the next plane out. Not, hit CTRL-ALT delete and call your local overseas hotline next week if things don't work.
Funny, I was talking about embarrasing moments to a friend today. Back in 1980, I had just switched majors to computer science and joined the college computer club. We were helping out at a convention and I was told to sit and keep the wife of someone getting an award. I was clueless - I asked the wife what her husband was getting an award for - it was just something simple like building a computer in the garage. Yep, Steve W. co-founder of Apple.
I can not connect to my wireless network - can't figure out why? some cooky windows thing. I had to connect to the internet tonight through my blackberry using it as a tethered modem. YUCK! I think I am ready for a Mac.
I'm not in the market right now, but have heard enough great things from Mac users that I'll definitely compare the next time. Must be nice having a great go-to source right in the family!
Hi Margaret~
Most of my brokers have good old PCs...but one just got a MAC...so now we are all keeping a close watch on how it works for him. We'll see.
Margaret,
Great getting my attention on using "Dummie" instead of "Dummy."
I'm a PC guy because I'm more a left brain person when it comes to PC and business use.
I hope to see more posts on Macs after you switch. I understand people prefer Macs for graphics and stuff like that because of ease of use.
Cheers, KIM.
Occasionally I'll sit down with a Big Mac but when it comes to computers I haven't touched an apple since the IIe. Never even think to look at those pricey renegades...
Hi Margaret,
Long time no speak!
Anyway...I was thinking the same last night while I was yelling at Dell on the phone. I never used a Mac but keep hearing it is another world out there.
Hey, Margaret! It's been awhile for me too. I started in the computer world with a Mac, and loved it. The corporate world drove me to the PC, and I've been here ever since.

Hi Margaret - I've read a number of great things about Macs here on AR, and it does give me reason to think about it. I'm not in the market for a new computer as yet, but it's nice to know that there are resources like your cousin's book to help us out if need be. How cool for you to have someone right there in your family to help you out!

Doesn't everyone want to switch to a Mac because there aren't as many virus codes written for them yet?
I made the switch to a MAC earlier this year and I am VERY happy. As far as the MAC not being able to run your real estate software...I added XP Pro SP2 on Parellels and I use the Windows portion of the computer less than 10% of the time yet it allows me to use MLS and lock box features.
Thumbs up to Cyberstar Ira Serkes for the recommendation to make the switch to a MAC.
