Ice on the Pool...in June -Baltimore, Maryland

It was late on Tuesday after a wonderfully long day, one of those very hot and humid Baltimore days. I had an appointment to show my listing at 3408 Terrapin Rd, parked my car in the driveway and went to open the house. You know - open the shades, turn on all the lights - all that typical stuff we agents do to ready a home for visitors. Suddenly I heard the wind kick up and watched as the sky turned that threatening dark that means a serious storm is brewing. I ran back out to the driveway to move my car under the carport - you remember that special car? – I did not want any dents!

Hail Storm Hail Storm 2

Hail on Pool CoverRan back in the house just in time before the noise and excitement began. Have you ever  heard hail in a storm on a skylight?

Looking out the big windows of this contemporary home I watched as heavy hail pelted the ground. Grabbed my camera just in time to see this quick quirk of nature cover the in-ground pool cover with ice balls. These photos are of the actual rain/hail/wind storm – they are blurry not because I was shaking, but because it was coming down so fast and hard!

A few minutes later all was calm and quiet. The ice melted in the afternoon heat, and a beautiful cool breeze came up for the drive home. A nice reward after a long and (briefly) exciting day.

Yes there really was Ice on the Pool...in June -Baltimore, Maryland

Strange weather, Margaret. Good thing you got your car in safely - I have seen some pretty amazing damage on cars from hail. Thanks goodness for that handy camera!

We had a big storm a couple of years ago in the spring and the ground around the house turned white - ususual for SoCal.

Margaret, The forces of nature never cease to "awe" me. It's incredible how fast these types of storms can come upon us. Great pictures!!!

Margaret--Your title drew here, but the story kept me here.  It is nice to meet you.

I was in my car the other night when the hail hit in PW County.  Fortunately it was small but it certainly was loud!

<argaret, I hope you stayed indoors to take these pictures, what an awful storm you had!  Glad to hear it passed by quickly but goodness, I never saw a pool covered like that.

Those storms are better short and sweet.  We had 1 inch hail a couple of months ago - the ONE time I didn't park in the garage - got my car pretty good.  :(

Pretty amazing how fast those hail storms come up, rattle our roofs and windows, and leave the scene.  And pretty amazing after effects - thanks for those photos!

Jeff, Would have made some great photos in SoCal.

BB, AR has taught me to never leave home without a camera.

Mary, Nice to meet you, I will be over to check out your blog.

Cindy, Sounds like the same storm.

Carole, Those photos were taken through the glass. And BTW, I love storms.

Virginia, Wow and inch of ice balls. Would have loved to see that. I have a really cute story about a blond and the dents on her car. Might make a good post for the humor group.

Alexandra, Pretty amazing is right. It was fun to capture a bit of the storm.

We sometimes get golf ball size hail here...never had any damage but there are cars....windows, etc. that get pelted every time Mother...(bet it's Father..women wouldn't do that) Nature decides to let loose with ice balls...The daisies are blooming and I think of you often...

Margaret,

Now that's a good story!  I'm glad you had your camera.

Sally, Golf ball sized could do some serious damage. They have a "clouds" group on AR. Do we now have to start a "hail" group? Hmmm Father not Mother nature...have t think on that one.

Mike, Thank you. That little camera goes almost everywhere with me.

Wow.....it must have been kind of exciting! (as long as you're safe etc)  How fun to have your camera with and take advantage. We don't get those kind of storms here in Phoenix but we get some HUGE monsoon-like storms in the summer. They come on really fast like this one.  I like em....as long as we don't get flooded out.  One year there was a micro storm and we almost did.....that was scary!

Anna, Bet your monsoon-like storms are pretty exciting, fun to watch but as you said as long as everyone is safe.

Hi Margaret,

Where were the prospective buyers during all of this?  Trying to drive through it?  It must have been an omen that they have to buy that house. (or not)

Jenny, By the time the buyers arrived, the storm was history. Not the right buyers for this home.
